About
340 E. Randolph
340 on the Park is a residential high rise tower in the
Lakeshore East development of the neighborhood known as the New East Side or
East Loop in Chicago and was completed in 2007. It is currently the second
tallest all-residential building in Chicago(One Museum Park being the current
tallest) at 672 feet (205 meters) with 62 floors. The architectural firm Solomon
Cordwell Buenz designed the tower and it was built by Magellan Development. The
structural engineering firm Magnusson Klemencic Associates designed the building
using Post-Tensioning in order improve the floor-to-ceiling height for
residents. 340 on the Park is set flush next to Randolph Street (the address
being 340 E. Randolph), allowing unobstructed views of Millennium Park, Grant
Park, the six acre botanical park at Lakeshore East and Lake Michigan. The
tower's design also allows for nearby buildings to maintain some views of the
park. 340 on the Park has also become the first residential tower in the Midwest
to achieve Silver LEED certification for its "green" design, including a large
winter garden for residents. Great care went into the design and building of
this residential tower to achieve that honor. A rainwater collection system
provides water for the interior Winter Garden, Air conditioning is supplied from
chilled water, all toilets are a dual flush system, renewable resource products
such as bamboo flooring were used in the kitchens, living rooms and dining
rooms, low VOC paints were used throughout the building and the building boasts
a Green roof. LR Development's interior design group Synthesis Architecture &
Design collaborated with Solomon Cordwell Buence to develop what they call an
"urban chic residential high rise." The effect is a truly unique modern building
that incorporates energy efficient and environmentally sound features. The
building's exterior is sheathed in reflective glass so that it appears to simply
be a natural part of the nearby Millennium and Grant Parks. It beautifully
reflects the lush green of the surrounding acres and the vast blue of the
overhead sky and nearby water. 340 on the Park blends in with its surroundings
while retaining its unique contemporary feel. 340 on the Park houses 343
residential units, of which 16 are luxury penthouses. Views from the penthouses
and terraces and balconies of the other apartments are simply stunning.
Locations that can be seen include Harbor Park, Grant Park, Millennium Park,
Lake Michigan, the Chicago River, Navy Pier and Buckingham Fountain. The Chicago
skyline can be seen both day and night from nearly every angle at 340 on the
Park. The twenty fifth floor is reserved for luxury living amenities. Located
some two hundred feet up from ground level, this area is 2.5 stories high and
designed with floor-to-ceiling windows for another amazing view. The windows
also allow for natural light. Residents have full use of a complete fitness
center and spa. Free weights as well as exercise equipment are available,
including a separate area where yoga or aerobics can be practiced. There is a
twenty five yard lap pool,340 On the Park steam room, sauna, hot tub and
separate men's and women's locker rooms. Also located on this floor is a Winter
Garden and Club Rooms. Residents are able to enjoy the "green" feel on this
floor while reaping the health benefits of the fitness center. All of these
Chicago luxury condo units at 340 on the Park are equipped with high speed
internet and cable television. Wi-Fi has a range from the swimming pool, winter
garden, health club, lobby and plaza. Residents are able to utilize this
technology feature for work or entertainment at 340 on the Park. Kitchens are
equipped with stainless steel appliances, quartz counter tops as well as marble
tops in the bathrooms. A 24-hour doorman and concierge service is available to
all residents. The lower floors of the building house retail shopping units and
indoor parking spaces. Children of residents living at 340 on the Park are zoned
to the Chicago public schools. Ogden School and Wells Community Academy High
School are the nearest locations for public education. Getting around from 340
on the Park couldn’t be easier. The building has a bike storage room and is
connected to the underground Chicago Pedway system, which makes getting around
Chicago much easier during days when the weather is less than perfect. With so
many amenities available at 340 on the Park, these units provide luxury
condominium living while being environmentally responsible, right in the heart
of beautiful downtown Chicago.
Lakeshore East
Lakeshore East is America's most exciting new
urban oasis and the best location in the World, a village situated between Lake
Michigan, Michigan Avenue, the Chicago River, and Randolph Street in downtown
Chicago. Condominiums, apartment homes, Park homes, shops and recreation all
create the perfect neighborhood. Restaurants overlooking the Chicago River,
shops along Columbus Drive and Randolph Street and a proposed elementary school
will complete the vision. Lakeshore East eclipses Chicago's other great
neighborhoods by providing unparalleled access to the city's central business
district and its wondrous galaxy of cultural, recreational, shopping and dining
opportunities, and is steps away from the highly acclaimed Millennium Park.
